HMB (beta hydroxy-beta-methybutyrate) is a metabolite of the essential amino acid Leucine. HMB appears to play a role in the synthesis of protein, particularly the protein that builds new muscle tissue. Research suggests that HMB may improve the growth of lean muscle tissue. Studies show that HMB lowers total and LDL (bad) cholesterol and helps raise the good HDL cholesterol, even in persons taking no exercise.
